ICE dropper doesn't like icy conditions?

Hi all,
I got an ICE Lift V8 dropper post a while ago. Been quite happy with it so far, but I've noticed recently that it's been sticking a bit. Sometimes it's really slow to return to the 'up' position, and sometimes I have to pull the saddle up to get it to lock into place.
Thing is, I've had it apart once and couldn't see anything wrong with it (it's a pretty simple design- just a spring and a pole really, and it all seemed well lubricated) and after a few recent rides I'm getting the impression that it only seems to stick when the temperature gets close to 0 degrees.
Does this seem feasible? Could it just be that it doesn't like the cold?
And if so, is there anything I can do about it? I'm thinking that maybe the grease in it doesn't work too well when it's cold or something- but then there's a ton of other lubricated parts on a bike and they all seem to work fine when it's cold...
Cheers
