Best hardshell winter cycling jacket?

Hey guys,

I'm currently looking for a hardshell, warm cycling jacket for winter bike rides, but am unfortunately constrained by a budget of around £50. I wondered what your opinions on the best/worst jackets out there at the moment are.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Endura Gridlock is in that price bracket, but it's more of a commuting jacket than a roadie jacket. Good quality piece of kit for the money though.

What are people's thoughts on these types of jackets, with maybe the prospect of putting a marino wool (or similar) top on underneath it?

Hardshells don't tend to be warm. Softshells are.

DHB Windslam Jacket at Wiggle is under £50.

I did see that one, but living in Cornwall means great hills, but LOTS of rain, so think I'm going to have to force myself to go down the hardshell route!

By "hard shell" I take it you actually mean a waterproof? I'm sure there are plenty for fifty quid that fit the bill, but they won't be very breathable. I would look in the sales. I think that halfords had some good deals on sportful stuff, although I cannot comment on the quality.
