29er?

OK, firstly apologies if this question has been asked loads of times before I did do a search!
Firstly I have 2 bikes (both 26in wheels) I am 5ft 4 and I have a 2010 Marin Attack Trail for trail centres etc and at the moment a Giant XTC hardtail for winter rides and the less techy stuff (both Small sizes).
I am really tempted to sell the Giant and get a 29er this would be used locally on loops of 20 or so miles, nothing hardcore ie. no jumps or mega descents.
If I do decide to go for a 29er am I only looking at small sizes? the reason I ask is that small 29ers are rarer then hens teeth (on ebay) I only see them in mediums.
Questions: 1. am I too small for a 29er 2.) would a 17in 29er be way to big?
Thanks in advance

When we recently looked at bikes for someone similar height to you, the guy in the shop (who was also around this height) advised against a 29er as he said it would probably feel a bit unwieldy, we steered clear because of this."Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

How come nobody went round telling tall people that 26ers were too small for them before 29ers existed?... :roll:0

Depends how tall you are, at 6ft7 29ers are just the right size for me. When choosing a bike I wouldn't worry to much about wheel size and just do some test rides0 -
"Clown bikes" is a term I've only ever heard applied to 29ers though, since they look daft.0
