My 11 year old is already racing Cyclocross and Road Circuit Youth events and would like to try riding some competitive MTB events too as she really does the enjoy the off road aspect of Cross racing.
She is pretty proficient on her stupidly heavy Apollo....however if we are going to race I would like to essure she has a bike at least a similar weight to the other riders.
Can anyone tell me what the 'bench mark' MTB is for for Youth riders, what should be a minium spec to look for?
Many thanks

What's your budget? Is it for cross country racing?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Yes, cross country racing. Budget fairly flexible, although the cost of all the othe bikes means that I am probably not looking at more than £500.

might be worthwhile trying to build a second hand one for that cash.

I'd look at something like this in small. Marginally over budget but...
