Hey everyone,
My first post... but I've been lurking for about 4 months now, and visit the site/forums often - Some real good info on here!
I picked up a Trek X-Caliber 7 29'er in the Summer, and I'm very chuffed with it.

I'm after some decent shoes & clips for it, but I'm still very noob to the world of MTB'ing!
I was looking at these to begin with;
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-am45-sp ... ike-shoes/
But then read a few reviews which suggested they may be a little too bulky for XC riding, so found these instead;

Thoughts/opinions/suggestions?
Nice one, cheers!
Tom.

How can a shoe be "too bulky" for XC riding? It fits on the pedal, it's SPD compatible. Get the AM45 and have dry, warm, comfortable feet with tons of grip on flat pedals or easy clipping in and out of SPDs.
I have them, they're two years old, have done two miserable winters and a lot of dusty summers and are still great.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

XC30's are more suited for XC riding and if you need to get off at any point and walk through mud/sand they would be much better, don't think I would fancy trying to walk in anything other than dry ground in AM45's.0

Cheers for replies chaps! I am leaning towards the AM45s!0 -
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-m088-spd-mountain-bike-shoes-wide-fit/ are what I bought, very happy with them so far, no issues. Nice rigid sole so you dont feel any pressure from the cleat mountings. Very comfortable.0

Fantastic all round shoe the am45. Keeps your dry in the winter with a good pair of sealskinz socks.0 -

Flip flops would keep you dry with Sealskinz socks.0 -
Yeah but they'd be like well shite, lol0

You'd still be dry though, lol. Saying a shoe keeps you dry with Sealskinz socks is a bit like saying a t shirt will protect you from getting shot, if you wear it over a bulletproof vest... If you're gonna wear the Sealskinz anyway then that makes the weatherproofing properties irrelevant to your choice of shoe.0
