Hi guys.

Any recommendations for back pocket, quality waterproof that packs away small when not in use?

was recently on the hunt myself for such an item.
After the initial horror at prices for flimsy lightweight nylon cycling rain macs, i settled on a mid-low priced Polaris Aqualite Extreme http://www.polaris-apparel.co.uk/produc ... te-extreme
Its a good fit, packs away small and light and really stops the wind, very bright colour for a murky day but you will sweat in it with some cycling exertion, as I think you will all similar jackets. Its waterproof enough for a light mac and a lot less money than the pretentious overpriced brands offering little above this in functionality other than a more elite label.

OP's budget?? After a racy fit or not?? Is the priority to get something that packs down as small as possible or just one that will fit in a Jersey pocket? Emergency-ish jacket for 'chance of rain' or dedicated rain jacket for heading out in bad weather? Will it be the only rain jacket you own?
  • I posted this thread recently and got some good replies. I was after small size over waterproof though:

I bought one of these a couple of months ago... it's first outing was for the Box Hill Sportive which had heavy rain for the whole duration... it was good at keeping me relatively dry and warm, but as mentioned you will sweat in it if you are on a long ride or putting some decent effort in to the pedals.
The second outing was on an overcast cold day. I had it on from the start as it was so cold, but then after tackling a long steep hill I had to take it off..... it packs away in to a small net that is attached to the bottom of the left sleeve.... it packed away small enough that I could fit it in my jersey pocket and didn't cause any discomfort for the rest of the ride.

Id also give the Aldi one a go. I think they're on sale tomorrow.
  • Budget not topsoil much of issue as Xmas pressie, quite a racy fit, one that I would use only if it rains while I am out and can fit in back pocket more or less, not really after one that you go out in if already chucking it down

if budget allows try the Sportful Hot Pack No Rain stretch jacket. Excellent fit, and a great balance between waterproof ses, breathability (very good!) and small pack size. Previously I used an Altura Pocket Rocket which was good but the medium was a bit too big for me. The sportful breathes better IMO

Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...
  • Thanks for that luv! The sportful looks good
