Hi guys,
Not sure if many people have much experience of the general lee cassette adapters, but thought I would ask. I purchased one off the classified section a couple of weeks back, I am really struggling to set it up. I run a shadow+ xt long cage mech and 34t wide narrow race face ring, however the 42t ring rubs on the cable clamp part of the mech, I have adjusted the b screw all the way in but to no avail. It's driving me mad? Any idea what I amDoing wrong?

  • Looking at this from pinkbike they are saying saying it's best with Sram cassettes and mech .http://m.pinkbike.com/news/General-Lee- ... -2013.html

Not sure it says that in the article. In fact the Shimano version hadn't been released then as i understand it. Anyway, its not about whats is best, i Own the Shimano version, its more about what im doing wrong with the setup. Obviously something is wrong as the mech hits the cassette. I am going to order a new rear hanger to ensure its lined up correctly. The ones fitted by Canyon as standard are made of cheese, so hopefully it may just be an alignment issue.

Chain length been set for the bigger rings?

Longer B-screws are often needed for extra clearance - how far is the jockey wheel from the 40t?

The largest cog is 42t, I think i will also try a longer B screw as well and order a new chain, although i think the length is not far off spot on. I cant remember how much distance is between Jocky wheels and big cog. Its hard to get the shift up there because of the mech fowling he big ring.

You'll definitely have to replace the chain if you were using a normal cassette before as it won't be long enough, I imagine this is where the issue is coming from.

Did you not size it after you fitted the GL cassette? Why not check before ordering a new one?

No, i was using my existing chain which I had hoped was ok, but thinking about it and reading some of the comments here was not the right thing to do so I will order a new one now

Yeah no way would it work if the chain wasn't the proper length! Have yet to fit 28-40 general lee but will be sure to pose up how I get on :) But yes you will need a new chain for sure.

Cheers Lawman, to be honest, stupidly i hadnt even given the chain a second thought! when i ordered the parts. Still nice bling gold chain on its way to me, so hopefully that will sort the problem. I cannot wait too bin the old front mech, rings and shifter!
