Getting a new front door ought to be fairly easy - or so I thought. All of this hassle about your wife must attend the salesman's visit with you! On enquiry the door bloke said that if the wife is with you then it is retail, if not then it is trade.....and retail is more expensive. Is it illegal to procure a door if you are unmarried? Anyone got any clues as to what is going on or better still recommendations for replacement door mendicants (vendors - look it up) near Stansted Airport? Fed up with this!!
...take your pickelf on your holibobs.... :D

jeez

Have a look in your local paper for local people and see if anyone's quoting door and fitting and for what price, round here it's £375 inc fitting for your basic upvc door.

Sounds like a classic two hour sell and discount price if you sign up tonight and tonight only and I noticed your fascia's looking a bit tired shall we do that as well ?

Don't forget the fake phone call to his manager to secure that extra special discount...

My own experience with double glazing . . . .
One hour demonstrating the product, followed by a quote of £7500. (this was eleven years ago). I said, "I can't be doing with haggling. Get that down to £2500 and I'll go for it. There's the phone if you want to call your boss, I'll put the kettle on, tea or coffee?"
Ten minutes later, it's £2560. That's worth sixty quid of anyone's money, so I went for it.

Alternatively, look round your nearby industrial estate for local fitters/suppliers. They'll be cheaper than the national chains. I just found these by Google ing "uPVC Bishops Stortford"
