New Handlebar and stem Help!

Hi all, Looking to buy a new handlebar and stem for my genesis mantle 20.
The current bars are own brand: Genesis OS (31.8mm) 6061 Alloy Flatbar (680mm x 9deg Backsweep)
As well as the stem: Genesis AL-6061- 80mm OS (31.8mm)
I keep finding myself riding on the edge of the bars which is obviously not the best idea, was wondering what options i have for trail riding/xc? Was looking at getting a shorter stem and slightly wider bars? But would a shorter stem with same size bars but with less backsweep also be a aggressive trail riding position? Was looking at Ragley wiser bar/stem but dont want to pay quite that much.

Stem is Still a bit expensive, The bars are good price but would probably need to be flat. Dont want to make the front end of a 29er any higher!Check out my blog for my views and reviews: http://memylifeandmybike.blogspot.co.uk/0

For one of the best stems on the market that could be used on any bike it's a good price.0 -

Indeed. Easton parts are amazingly well built... certainly not a brand where you just pay for the name or logo.POAH wrote:stem is nice
Sweet! I went for the Black/Silver 55mm

The new Ragley Wiser stem is very nice actually. It's nearly Christmas, treat yourself

I'd still plug those holes though. You ever seen the cookie cutter scars open bars can leave? Not niceCurrent:

Can't see how they would do that and they have a massive surface area.
I'd still plug them, stops water getting in too and protects the bar.0 -

Try landing on it at speed with your fleshy bits.
A mate has a nice semi-circular scar from his bars, and that was with ODI lock-ons :PCurrent:

if there is energy to pierce the skin I really don't think having a grommet there will stop it but here you go.

Just seem an odd choice! I can't really see why they were designed like that, but hey if you like you them.0 -

according to the makers - Trigger fingers and thumbs wrap into unique alloy grooves for perfect bar control
for me I get no rubbing on the skin between the thumb and the first finger with it being smooth0 -

Certainly interesting! Personally I find find the metal clamps of lock ons can dig into my hands and cause my hands to ache on really long descents, but I hold the bars right on the end of the grip and goes nowhere near the inboard part of the grip.0 -

oh and they were blue and a tenner0 -
Kenesis do 750mm bcarbon bars for less than £100 (out of stock though) and for the cash rich or those in the trade there is the Thompson flat bar at 730mm and the Thompson X4 stem. I have the latter two and like them 730mm wide bars though are wide and in some race I come to a very narrow gap in the trail and think no I will not fit.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

I'm thinking of going with this one, in 50mm flavour for my hardtail, if I get new forks for it:
