Recommend me some shoes please that can be used with both SPD's and flat pedals when the need arises, if such things exist .Preferably warm and waterproof.Thank you.

Second Shimano AM45's - I bought some with intention of one day clipping in. Been 2 years, Never gonna happen, but the shoes work well with flats. Next year I'm hoping they'll need replacing (and I'll get the am41's) but to be honest, they're so bloody robust that they'll probably last another year at least.Family, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there

AM45s are probably as close as you'll get, but the difference on flats against the AM41 is night-and-day. They not even slightly waterproof either. The lace cover will hold spray at bay a little longer than other shoes, but once they're wet they stay wet for days.0

I use Shimano MT91, mainly on flat pedals (Superstar nano and DMR vaults) and they have enough grip. The Vibram sole is soft so grips well, however on SPD pedals the sole can flex.
I’ve got some Shimano AM45s and I really wouldn’t use them on flats, the soles are too hard to offer any real grip.0 -
Not to mention the massive gap in the sole and the possibility of having a big chunk of metal that won't grip anything.0

AM45s work ok on flats if you don't have cleats fitted. With cleats on they are useless on flats.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Thanks for the replies,i will try a pair of am45s for size I think, although not perfect they sound like the popular choice. How about if I wanted them for SPD only then?,would people still choose am45s?0

For cleat use, I'm on my second pair!0

I would only use AM45's as SPD shoes for downhill. They are a bit bulky and heavy compared to an XC shoeTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

What would you use for general trails then instead??0
