I'm still not sure whether I actually saw this but when I loosened the spokes of an old wheel to take it apart and rebuild it I saw bubbles coming out of the rim where the ends are joined. Does that make any sense?

not sure if you mean bubbles from the rim joint, or from the spoke holes

if there's any water inside and a even slight pressure differential, e.g. due to the wheel being moved to a warmer/colder place, you could get bubbles

The bubbles came from the rim joint, I'm mainly wondering if I have to worry about the strength of the rim now.

If the joint is pinned it will not be sealed so bubbles of water would not mean a weak rim just a rim with some water ingress.

Haha, more like an Aqua rim apparently...

I see! It's a Mavic cxp22 rim, I was quite surprised to see water coming out to be honest. Anyway good to know that it doesn't mean the rim is weak. Although I was hoping it would explain why I can't get the bloody thing true after rebuilding it...

Did Michael Jackson own the wheel before you?
