One of our apprentices asked about cheap Hybrids.
Said his budget was £150-200 his commute would be under 2 miles but I might start dragging him out for 10-15 milers at lunch next spring once he's broken in.
Suggestions from the hive mind please!
I checked our LBS for 2nd hand bikes, any of these worth ticket price?

I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

This one perhaps http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165534
For under 2 miles it doesn't really matter of course, get something dirt cheap and then upgrade to something better later on.
Good to see Low Fell Cycles, bought my first adult bike from there, 16 years ago - and it was a hybrid0 -
Definately buy used, the Carrera Subway is a good solid option, also consider the rarer Gryphon which is lighter and faster (700c wheels) and tends to sell for less money, but basically buy on conditiion, I'd rule out a Sirrus as the name means it will cost twice as mush as something just as good with a Carrera or btwin branding.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Another vote for the subway. I was using a mtb on slicks then moved to the subway. Done nearly 200 miles now and can't fault it0
