Good shout actually ... He'll now be cheaper than he wants to be and BMC only have 2 GC guys, both of whom he has a connection with so there should be no conflict of ego ...0 -
Evans told Fox Sports:
“The only things that appears to me that we must be the only profession in the world where for looking after your health and trying to be healthy you can ruin your career and all but ruin your life.”
Evans continued:
“Having had a virus myself, at a certain point you have to be healthy. That’s not whether you are a bike rider or not, that’s just human. The two most important things in our life are our health and then everything else.”Contador is the Greatest0 -
^hmmmm.
Evans also said 'I don't know all the details...' At which point he should probably have stopped.
Ballan claims it was treatment for his health - but didnt apply for a TUE or consult the UCI medical. That's a red flag right there.
The leaks referenced in Gazzetta also mentions wire taps and verbal connection of Ballan to EPO. Journos like Friebe who know the Italian scene very well, certainly dont think Ballan is an innocent ('....just another guy on Italian cycling bonfire')0 -

That's true as per his twitter feed yesterday. But when asked he also clear his scepticism of Ballan having been a clean rider - which is the point I was making re not thinking Ballan is an innocent.0 -
It was good of Friebe to let us all in on his suspicions at some point in the last decade, wasn't it? Cycling journalism on top of it's game as usual."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Journos have always been in a position to hear rumours all the time, and to formulate their own suspicions. Big leap to putting those suspicions in print and naming riders in those suspicions, if what they hear is off-record, and 2nd or 3rd hand - which it pretty much is all the time.
That's not unique to cycling journalism.
And remember most of the journos and writers we read arent investigative journalists. Take Italian cycling and looking at English-speaking journos and writers Whether or not everyone likes it, Friebe or Herbie Sykes (for example) are not going to change their specialism to become investigative journalists, chasing up rumours or suspicions for exposes.
That's more a question for Italian journos writing for Gazzetta etc.

@Vaughters @inrng I know for a fact that there are Qs in the peloton, and from reasonable people who don't rush to judgement.
Is the other side of the coin. Not easy, either way.

The full-page report in Corriere della Sera reveals that Damiano Cunego was one of the few riders at Lampre to resist the pressure to be treated and coached by Nigrelli.
