1985 Peugeot, the only bike I have ever bought new and I've cycled over 10,000 miles on it

Recently fitted with mudguards to get me through the winter months

1987 Ron Cooper. Custom made for me when I was 15. Original components: frame, seat post, handlebars. Modernised (and repainted) a couple of years ago. Strictly my sunny weather bike!

An old hat/cutting edge blend that seems to work way better than it should!
    Well done

Great frame builder, lovely bloke. I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time in over 20 years when I went to Colour Tech to get the frame resprayed. RIP.

When my Dad had the rights to the Bates name Ron used to build all the frames for him, I used to have a few with the Cantiflex 531 and Diadrant forks. Rode really nicely.

I would have loved one of these back in the day!
  • I still have my 1984 gazelle champion Mondale which won me many races as a junior in those days.
It cost a small fortune to build back then, campy throughout with cinelli and gp4's. Could not bear to be without it despite lots of shiny new kit.

  • 1953 Carlton international my dad bought new to get him to work when he was 15 and race a little too. He's now 75 and I use it sometimes in single speed form.

1986 Team Miyata. 7 speed 7400 with Grip Shift. First product SRAM ever made.

Like it, I've never seen gripshift on drops before!

It was early STI - when cranking along in the drops I rested my hands on the shifter so gear changes were immediate. Plus the size made them comfortable.

Half way though restoring my first bike, a 1993 Look MI80.
was planning on sourcing all the original parts, but have decided to put a STXrc group I have in the shed on it instead.
