SramRival Rear Derallieur with Shimano Shifters?

My bike is currently fitted with the original full Sram rival groupset. My right (double tap shifter) just broke, as the rival shifters are pretty pricey I'm looking at finding a cheaper, probably second hand, alternative.
My question therefore is, would a Shimano right shifter work with my current Sram Rival rear derallieur?
Thanks
Shaun

I don't think so. Front Derailleurs work, but shim/sram rear derailleurs have a different pull. You need to match rear derailleur and shifter.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

Definitely no. As the post above shows, the rear derailleur has different pull ratios and will only work with a SRAM shifter. You can pick up a set of Force shifters pretty cheap if you trawl the internet enough.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

Apex shifters will work and may be cheaper0

Oh btw - how did your right shifter break? Old SRAM had a design fault where a plastic piece broke occasionally - it may well be worth your time going back to the place you bought it (if you bought it new) and trying to get a refund - or going to the distributor if bought 2nd hand....http://www.georgesfoundation.org

Thanks for the help.
It broke right at the top where it pivots, it actually seems to be metal that sheared, but it does seem like the usual fault that a lot of people have. If I change shifter(s) for another brand and therefore rear deraillieur, will I have to change the cassette as well? And what about the front deraillieur?
SRAM shifters seem pretty pricey!0 -
No, SRAM and Shimano cassettes are compatible as long as the RD is able to take the size of cassette you have.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0

The JTek Shiftmate works perfectly for Shimano/SRAM. A little pricey though. http://jtekengineering.com/shiftmatestraight.php0
