SRAM X5 skipping gear

Ive just been putting a new rear cable on my SRAM X5 shifter and when setting up my gears I couldnt get it to get into gear 8 (second highest). I took it apart and clicked through the gears and it appears to make a huge leap between 7 and 9.
Shifter buggered or is there a fix?

Sounds like your gears are not set up properly have you tried cable tension?0

It seems to be the same even when I have the shifter disconnected and am clicking through0
