shock stroke lengths

Hi all, I'm looking at possibly replacing my rear shock. It's 190mm eye to eye with a 50mm stroke. What would happen if I fitted a different shock with more/ less stroke lenght? Also, how would a coil shock compare to the air that's on it now? Cheers, chris

    Depends on the current shock, proposed shock, bike, type of riding. Etc.

    I currently have Fox triad that canes stock on my spesh 2009 xc pro. Not given much thought on what I would replace it with, just seeing what my options are.

    Ride trail centres mainly, cannock, dego, gisburn and brenin are the main stay
