Wheel Service - When?

When or what is the recommended time frame that you should get your wheels & hubs serviced??

About this time last year I replaced my stock Giant branded wheels for a set of Mavics with Deor hubs. As the rear wheel/hub was rough and the LBS said it wasn't economical to strip and rebuild etc.

Since then I have done about 1500 XC miles in all weathers. The wheels & hubs run smooth as they have always done. But I want to keep it that way and was wondering if they should have a service?

Any thoughts?

  • I tend to do cup and cone bearings strip clean and fresh grease once a year, because you can even if thy don't feel they need it. My cartridges seem to have gone on for years with nothing and still seem fine.

Easy job and takes half an hour tops for both with a couple of basic cone spanners.
