Laberal Tear in hip - any advice

After 2.5 years of physio, scans, xrays, chiro, saddles, bike fit.....I finally pushed for an MRI anthogram (dye in the hip)- The good thing the cartilage is ok - but I have degenerative and laberal tear in my hip.
This gives me mild discomfort when sitting, and things feel very unhealthy when sitting on a bike saddle. Since may I have been doing hamstring and hip work in the gym - which means cycling 15 miles is bearable - and I am thinking about upping the mileage
The big question I am sure I will face - as whether to have the labrum repaired - form what I read, the results are surgery vary wildly - some are back on the bike in 6 weeks - whilst others still walk in pain 12 months later. To be honest the injury limits my cycling but the rest of my life is pretty much unaffected - my hunch is to continue with physical therapy - with perhaps more focus on the hips ....obviously I will see the consultant and take a big steer on what he says.....but just wonder if anyone has experience has experience with this injury\surgery\rehab ?
Cheers

I posted in the mtb forums about my hip operation (you may have had a look and commented at the time actually...) Part of my op was to repair a lovely tear that went 3/4 the length of my hip bone. Its now been a year since the op and things are going well. I had it done in October 12 and had a set back in January when I pushed myself too hard. However since then I have built it up on my road bike slowly but surely and in the gym. I also luckily have a girlfriend who is a ballerina so she gave me lots of stretches for my hamstrings and hips which have been a god send!
I am entered in to a duathlon in April next year, when even running 100 metres was agony previously. In the last couple of months I have been running 2/3 times a week + gym work and a mtb ride on the weekend (I've even fallen off, landing on my hip with no problems!) So in my experience having the tear repaired and the removing of a bone spur have been great. I can even sit at work without being in pain. My other hip is starting to go the same way and I wouldnt hesitate to have the op on that one too. Where are you living? As I can thouroughly recommend my surgeon in the North East.0 -
Thanks for your reply - yes I do remember your post and it was your info about the dye in the hip with an MRI that got me the diagnosis.
However mine isn't that clear cut (no pun) - Day to day my hip gives me no problems - and I had anethsetic in the hip at the time of the MRI - not much if any improvement. My hip never locks up.
Also noted as aside on the MRI was hamstring tedonathapy - my consultant has always suspected this - but its never shown on previous scans. Thinking back I have a twinge towards the back of my hip for while - it hadn't stopped me cycling. Googling, the painful symptoms I get more resemble hamstring tedonathapy than the labral tear.
I haven't yet discussed formally with the consultant - but my hunch is to try and sort out the hamstrings, before opting for surgery.0
