Yesterday my bike started making a shocking noise which I realised was a bouncing chain when freewheeling. On looking closer, it looked to be caused by the cassette rocking back and forth slightly.

Any ideas why and what I can do to resolve?

  • Agree - to check whack it on a stand/turbo trainer and try and pedal backwards - if the freewheel is shot then it won't go back and the chain will coil up.

Thanks chaps, replies appreciated. She just passed that test. If it happens next week, the wheel is going straight to the LBS.

Freehub said to be okay but something had broken which was said to be down to overtightening at factory. Hope to get it done under warranty. Thanks again.
