Nice to see a bit of enterprise out there, but top tubes come in all shapes and sizes these days, and not many are thin and round.
I don't reckon my SL4 would sit safely on there.0 -
You could make them to fit any top tube.
A good idea, thats got me thinking...............0 -
Your friend should patent it, although it may be an issue that you've just made the design public domain. Also I'd put a hook under the box to hang my jacket on as well.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

doesn't look very secure on there, needs some 'fixing' method imo0

Is it going to leap up and out of the 'V'? Looks plenty secure from the photos.
Neat idea for sure.0 -

Sure - if there are clumsy people in the household then maybe some kind of fixing could help. Couple of woodscrews through the top tube and into the storage unit would be more than adequate I would have thought.0 -
Or screw a metal base to the box and weld the top tube to that?
Or - you could just tie a bungy to the radiator ...;)0 -
The only problem is if you have got an exposed brake cable running along the top tube, then the frame will be permanently sitting on it thus risking damage. Thats why i sent the Cycloc back. Great idea though.Ribble Ultralite Racing 7005, Campagnolo Veloce groupset, Campagnolo Khamsin G3 wheel set0

looks a good idea but a bit overpriced for what it is really.
for the people who think the bike is not secure enough why not put like rubber straps on it like whats on your bike carrier for the car or a couple of the Velcro loop strap thingumyjigger things just to hold it nice and safe...problem solved.Lapierre Aircode 300

I quite like the idea, it is a bit expensive though.
Good look with it......0 -
Nice idea, nicely made, nice pictures, nice bike, too expensive.0

Does it come with a replacement wife? cos the one I have at the moment wouldn't let me hang my bike on the wall like that. Other than that, I like the design, nice and simple, a good idea. Is the bike frame sitting on the wood or is there some kind of cushioning?0

Look a bit like these

As cheap as £10 from ebay and folds out of the way when not in use to avoid smacking your head or anything else on it.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

I think there is a market, the wood looks much nicer than the cheap metal one which is important for something that will be inside the house. Good idea to combine with a shelf for helmet and stuff - agree a hook could be added for coat (or multiple for coats). Too high for toddlers to reach too.
Level, tube shaped tubes are best!
Would need to have some padding to stop paint damage I'd assume.0 -
I don't know where you folks do your shopping but £45 doesn't look expensive to me.
I wouldn't like to try and make one for £45 covering all my costs and labour, even at the minimum wage level.
Of course, that's why we all buy cheap stuff from China and then moan about the loss of manufacturing in this country. the reason there is no manufacturing is because people don't want to pay the price it costs to make stuff. And the perpetual decline is there for all to see...........
I used to make handmade canvas & leather bags/canoe packs and other bits and bobs. There were some dedicated customers willing to pay what it really cost to make it (and i worked out i was getting less that £5 per hour - hardly a living wage). But most just thought it was too expensive and bought cheap stuff from China. I'm not knocking it, but you can't do that and moan about it at the same time.0 -
Hi are the handmade bike shelves still available?
If so, I am interested...0 -

What? A bit of timber, some ready cut templates, a few drill bits, a drill and a saw? Once you've got a few knocked up as practice it'd take less than an hour to fully finish one of those.
That's DIY but then add production costs, profit, and distribution etc then it's a different matter.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
I really like that - good work.
You could also take the helmet out and if needed keep tools in there if you don't have a garage/workshop.
Top work.
And I'm (as everyone knows) tight and penniless and think that £45 for someone's time, effort, hassle, costs, etc for that isn't too bad. Not "wow, a bargain" but not as big a rip off as most thing cycle related are nowadays......Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Here's one I made earlier from oak.
Bit of a rip off of a number of designs but it works well. I store my helmet on top.
