I was planning on getting a bike from Decathlon a 8.0, however there are a god few used ex rental bikes i have seen locally any suggestion if better to go with the new or the rental?
The ones i have seen are:
Scott aspect 650 2013 model £280
Scott Aspect 30 2012 model £380
Saracen Zen 1 2011/2012 £400
Also for reference he will be planning a few good run on this from the point of off road as there are a few tracks round by us.

Personally I'd go with used but private sale, rental bikes (like cars) tend to get abused somewhat.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Saracen Zen 1 2011/2012 model size 21" = http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271300678083
Scott aspect 650 2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scott-aspect-650-2013-model-sizes-med-and-large-/271313815924?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item3f2b904974

I would expect a 21" frame to be too big for a 15yo (unless he's circa 6foot plus), so that knocks that one out.
The two Scotts you can get a similar spec new for the same money, so I wouldn't.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
The one that fits him best (with a bit of growing room built in!)2011 Giant Trance Ltd, 2016 Revs, XT bits etc.0
