Moved house recently & I've hit a few probs. in the bathroom, start at the beginning , we are on metered water ( first time ever)-- combi boiler --- longish pipe run to b/room . If you want a hand basin of warm water- cold water money is poured away - boiler fires - basin fills- hot water left in pipeline going to waste. There are only 2 of us & thus the demand for warm basin water is sporadic during the day. The b/room is due to be refurbed shortly & I intend to put an electric heated "gizmo" in an enclosure well zoned out of the way as per 17th. edition & connect to the hot tap of the basin thus alleviating all the mentioned probs. All the instantaneous water heaters I've seen store hot water( 5-7( litre) & I don't want to store this because of the sporadic use. Anybody know of a heater that operates on/off with water flow something like a simple electric 6kw. shower. The electrics are no problem & pipework will be in plastic thus no bonding probs.

i ditched my immersion heater and tank a few years back and plumbed in an on-demand electric from zip, excellent thing, very chunky power cables, had to get a new consumer unit fitted, but now i only pay to heat what's used
they do a range from small under basin units to 3-phase monsters

Have you calculated the actual cost of this "waste"? I can't imagine it's that huge, is it?0

Fair comment about the "waste", I think it may not be possible to work it out but waste is waste. On a daily basis it probably isn't a great deal but x by 365 add in grandchildren- daughters- friends ( I think I may have one) & the true cost of waste starts to escalate, interesting thought though & I promise to get out more.0

we have exactly same set up, tho water is only turned on when showers/baths needed (as pointless keeping tank/pipes full of hot water for the sake of a 10 second hand wash) , wash hands in soap cold water has the same effect on cleaningAll lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....0
