I'm looking to start commuting to work and because of back problems atm i'm looking a 26'' wheeled bike with Slick tyres and an internal 8/9/10 internal hub.

Thing is though i can't seem to find many 26'' wheeled bikes with that spec. I've seen a few Cube Hybrids but not fussed on the 700c option.

Does anyone know of companies who have that style of bike? I'm trying to get it on the Bike to Work scheme as well, that may well scupper that plan as there doesn't seem to be many about.

Not sure how a hub geared bike helps a back problem.

Try searching for shimano alfine 26" and you get more than a few hits, first two below, you can have 8 or 11 gears not 9 or 10!

Or consider Planet-X, you can put a hub braked 26" wheel in any 700C frame, my commuter is a 700c frame with 26" wheels (Disc braked).
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

It's more the style of the bike than the internal hub to be honest. I'm basically looking a more relaxed riding position than that of a road bike.

But thanks for the links mate.

Halfords did the carrera subway with this option and as long as you check the bike assembly by their mechanics on pick up you should be ok. Good bombproof commuter bike just crap supplier assembly sometimes.

I've seen a few of those about, and to be honest they look ideal. I've been on the Halfords site and seen the bike in question but no sign of that internal gear option.

  • There are a few carrera subway 8's (the hub gear one) on eBay at the minute

I have that style in the Dahon Cadenza 8. It is a nice grab and go bike for urban commuting, esp with dynamo hub front wheel. Alfine is the bees knees and a fat, slick 26" tyre rolls easily over cobbles.

The closest seems to be Ghost Trekking 7600 pr 5200 from chainreaction.

There are a bunch of 700C models, Scott Sub10, Charge Grater
