Waterproofing?

Anyone had any luck with the numerous products out there.
I was thinking of trying to water proof some specialized winter arm warmers and some shorts.
But I don't to want to make the soft inner fabric harder by using a wash in and not sure spraying just the outer will have the same affect.
Anyway thought i'd ask the question and see if anyone here can help

I have also used Nikwax. I personally haven't tried anything else but this works great.0

Skin is waterproof. Take a change of clothes and keep moving to stay warm.0
