UCI approved frames

Does anyone know, for open road racing ie cat1-4 races are we meant to be using UCI approved frames or is any bike acceptable?

If so does this extend to all components on the bike?

    I does it applies to Cat 4 or 3. Not exactly sure what catagory of race UCI rules apply to but it has to be fairly elite level.

    British cycling have rules about bikes but these are more general safety rules like the presence of bar end plugs e.t.c. All on the BC website.

    Nothing about UCI approved bikes on there.
