Ok, so I've just bought a second hand Dura Ace 7900 chainset, described as 'used but in good condition'. Generally happy with the condition and the seller was very good with communication and dispatch time. However, I'm not sure if the teeth of the outer chainring are a bit dead (I may just be being a bit OCD as I'm quite anal about my bikes).

So what does everyone else think? Opinions and a mark out of 10.

Thanks

Andy

  • 7/10 for me. I'd say the description of the rings being in good condition is fair, but 1 or 2 of the teeth look chipped more than worn. I'd have liked this included in the description if i was being picky. The crankarms are spotless. I suppose it all depends on how much of your hard earned you parted with.

It wasn't a bad price, £180 with a BB which I'll use on my winter bike when it's BB goes, so I'd say it actually cost me approx £165. So not bad for a DA chainset I don't think.

7/10 is fine with me for what I paid and the description. I was just fearing '3/10' or 4/10' with comments like 'you may get another 1,000 miles, but that's it!'.
  • Does it ride okay? That's the most important thing.

The teeth look usual for DA with successive teeth having different profiles. If it was wear then there would be consistent wear across all teeth which doesn't appear to be the case in this situation.

Haven't had a chance to try it yet - the weather in Devon doesn't encourage me to use Dura Ace unfortunately.

Thanks for the replies, all positive, which is reassuring!

The teeth are not chipped that's how they are,i had the exact same chainset from new and that's what it looked like.
