Good sportive options with rack mounts?

Hi all,

I'd like to buy a good quality sportive/endurance type road bike with good components (105 or similar or better).

My problem is I want to use the bike sometimes for light multi-day tours and so it needs to have mounts for a rear rack. It seems all the options I can find (Defy 2, Secteur, Trek 1.2 etc) only have rack mounts on their Sora or Tiagra spec models - not on the better spec models.

Any ideas?

Many thanks for your advice. :D

Depends how light you mean when you say 'light multi-day tours' as Topeak do a range of racks that mount on the seat post but they don't take much weight.

Titanium? Van Nic Yukon, Sabbath September, Enigma Etape or Lynksey sportive.

Steel? A nice british handbuilt 'audax' bike from the usual builders. Off the peg audax from Spa.

Aluminium? The Ribble winter trainer, Dolan equivalent, Tifosi TK7 frames with your choice of components

    Carbon? A bit harder.

Also come cyclocross bikes could be adapted to your needs.

Racelight Tk3? I have the original Tk from 6 years ago and that has rear mounting points for a rack. I bought mine from Epic Cycles. You can then spec it with whatever kit you fancy.
  • Trek madone 3 has rack mounts.

I have to say the Ribble Audax bike (mine is built up with Athena) is great! I really enjoy riding it. I'd be happy if it was my only/best bike tbh.

    What's your budget??

I've just ordered a custom Burls Titanium frame which i am getting with rack mounts and mudguard clearance. It will be my winter / touring bike and should be pretty light when built up (ask me in December when it arrives) - ideal for long sportives of 100+ miles
  • Thanks everyone for all the advice. Some great options here.

I would like to spend around 1000 pounds.

Hardly a 'sportive' bike. The head-tube length is quite aggressive.

    More a fast, racy commuter?

I have a trek domane 2.0. £1000 with mounts. I've done 60ish hilly miles no bother.
  • What about a Genesis Croix de Fer. I think it's generally aimed at the cyclo cross/tourer/sportive markets.

The original Tk was designed purely as a winter trainer, and that has a long top tube / short head tube. The second iteration of the Tk2 and now the Tk3 have taller head tubes and I believe they are aimed at the sportive market as well as commuting and winter training. But no, it's not a sit up and beg shopping bike.

I've never heard anyone say a bad word about the Dolan Preffisio, if I could only have one 'do it all' road bike I'd happily have just that one. Should be able to get a build with nice wheels and 105 for under budget.
