As the title suggests - can i stick 700c road tyres (I was thinking conti 4-season 28mm) directly on a 29er rim?

Comments

  • I just did some more research apparently - yes. if the tyre is wider than the rim an online search revealed that my 29er rims are 24mm. I presume that i could run 25-28mm road tyres - but am looking at 28mm anyway. Anyone tried this?

You can practically run tyres as wide as the rims themselves (external width).
I used to run 28mm Grand Prix tyres on Stans Flow 28mm rims and they they were brilliant. They measured 32mm!

I just bought a pair of wheels with Alex ZX24 rims and put 25c tyres on them and the tyre profile is better, U-shaped rather than balloon on the Mavic CXP22 rims on the other wheels.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Check the rated pressure of the rim e.g. Stan's Crest only have a maximum pressure of rating 4 bar. Some rims and tyre combos can be tricky too e.g. GP4 Seasons on Crest are really tight.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
