Hello folks!

To put it short, I need me a bike like Santa Cruz Chameleon, but for half a price
- I am ready to spend approximately 1000 euros on it
- hardtail
- fork travel 120-140 mm
- wheel size 26 or 27.5

Well, that's pretty much it. Any advice, guys?

Have Commencal el Camino 1 on my mind, but now sure about the fork on that one

On-One 456 Evo X5 Sektor looks killer to me, but is on the expesive side and I'm not sold on a steel frame

Kona Blast is another option, having a good frame and not-so-good everything else

Any other models that fit the description are also welcomed
Thank you in advance!

How about building up a bike yourself?

If you shopped carefully for bits you could maybe build something using a Cotic BFe.

+1 on the BFE. I have a Cotic Soul and it is excellent.

Just been perusing the Bfe and Soul frames from your link. They look very similar, apart from geometry, why's the Bfe so much cheaper? More expensive materials on the Soul?
  • Soul is entire Reynolds 853 steel, the bfe is only 853 on the down tube, using cheaper grade steel everywhere else (at least that's how I read their specs)

Figured that must be the case, both look outwardly very similar. Love the orange on the Soul.

The Soul is a bit lighter and is made from fancy expensive steel. My mate loves his.

Cotic, Dartmoor, Stanton, On One are all well regarded

Personally when I get round to building up a steel HT I'll go for a On One 456 evo or a Cotic

Also check out the Singular Buzzard, there's one at my LBS and it look pretty awesome
