just a quick question

need to find some cheap mudguards that will fit on my decathlon rr big 5.3 29er

i have crudcatchers fitted to my giant xtc but cannot find a suitable solution for my big rr due to the way the cables are routed down the frame

was thinking about some form of washer type configuration behind the guard, to bring it away from the frame but would prefer a standard solution before i go adopting stuff

any help would be most appreciated , as the last few times out on this i have come home in some fairly sodden and dirty conditions (much to the displeasure of the wife )

thanks

    Marsh Guard.
  • just get dirty... only thing mud guards are uesful for is keeping crud out of your eyes occasionally.
  • thanks that marsh guard looks like it could be the future
  • i do get dirty thats the problem, did 30 miles last sunday and i couldnt see by the end and the amount of crap i could taste was horrible, was thinking of one of those neoguards but that marsh guard looks better
is ebay the best place to get one ?
  • marsh guard has led me to bender fender

    anyone better than the other

    thanks once again
  • I prefer marsh guard as its less flimsy & uses cable ties instead of Velcro
  • & yes eBay for 7.99

    This:

Fits downtube routed cables (it has two rubber bushes that space it away from the tube). i have one each on my Carrera and Boardman, both of which have under downtube routing.

    thanks once again

Got mine for £6.29 from my LBS:

I have a Bender Fender on the front of the Boardman. Cheap, effective and weighs nothing. Being thinking of buying an XL version now that the weather's turned decidedly autumnal and the dry dusty trails of summer are a distant memory, which has also prompted me to buy one of their new rear guards while in my LBS the other day:

The bike looks better without it, but it's not offensive. Weighs nothing (50g), removes in a second (velcro strap), adjustable angle (although my seatpost clamp shape means I can only use two of the four positions) and gives you a few minutes of origami fun (it comes as a flat sheet, v clever bit of design). The main reason I bought it was that last time out at Gisburn when I was dropping my saddle it was grinding the mud and grit down between seatpost and seat tube, so this should keep the crap off the post.

Each to their own, but the Bender Fender's certainly not flimsy (why make it heavier than it needs to be) and I think the velcro straps are better (quicker to remove and re-usable and hold the guard firmly in place), but you could replace them with cable ties if you wanted to.
  • I didn't say it was flimsy, I said the marsh guard was less flimsy meaning its thicker & more robust,I bought both & this was my opinion that's all
  • thanks for the opinions lads
i bought the bender fender xl last night as there was 50%
will give it a go, and may try the marsh guard if not strong enought
the rear fender look worth a purchase too as it is extremely light

lol next what to get for my cyclocross thats on its way ???

It is. It only needs to stop mud flicking up, doesn't need to support anything, so why make it any heavier than it needs to be.

Yeah, it weighs nowt, and doesn't look too hideous. Plus you can take it on and off in seconds with no tools, and it's very flexy so won't break when I fall off, lol.

I've just fitted a mucky nutz fender bender and its made a massive improvement on keeping the mud out of my face. I would whole heartedly recommend it.

Hopefully will get mine soon, might need it in the storm
  • just to let you know i fitted my mucky nutz xl and i can say it is the mutz nuts
