edited October 2013 in MTB buying advice
Over the last few months I've been riding more and more, i think its a good time to get a fs. I was looking at buying a giant trance 27.5 but i am now thinking i would like to build up my own bike. I've mainly been looking at bikes around the 130-160mm travel so I've looking at giant reigns, orange five's and yeti 575's.

I know it depends on the condition of the frame.

So my question is, is there any particular frame to watch out for good or bad and the same goes for manufactures.

Sorry for the extremely vague question, but you are the best people to ask.

sorry but it really depends on what you find.

any can be a good buy but at the same time any can be a bad buy.

Look for and odd ball fittings and standards. 135/142/150mm rear hubs. standard/internal/integreated/tapered etc headsets.

I haven't really got a budget but it will be around 5-600 depending on what I see.

I've built up a bike based on the bigger enduro version and loving it!

That looks great but ideally I was going to build it up with some pikes but they only come tapered. :(

hmm..well spotted, mine has a 1.5" headtube. 165mm rear travel, would work with a Pike but looks like they're all gone

Its only the Reign X which breaks linkages. The standard Reign is great and solid.
Orange Fives are ok if you don't mind the noises! Even a good, well maintained one can sound like a sack of spanners.
Avoid Commencals and Lappierres unless you are really good at welding.

If you go the yeti 575 route, i would personally avoid any with carbon rear sections.

A Santa Cruz LT would be near the top of my list.
