9 speed cranks with 8 speed gears

hi i have a Carrera Subway Hybrid Bike 2011/2012 with 24 speed gears.
would i be able to put a 9 speed or 10 speed deore crankset on.
just by puting a single chain ring on the cranks.

    sure. but if using more than one ring the shifting might not be as good.

    most bikes with 8spd cassettes tend to have 9spd compatible cranks.

    Yes as the only difference is slightly tweaked gear spacing it's irrelevant with a single ring anyway, you'll have to use the middle ring location to get the right chainline.

    Why not just put a single ring on the cranks you have?
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
