I'm trying to buy my first MTB and I'm completely lost. I plan on using the bike on the trails at places like cannock chase and at local parks. I think I've narrowed it down to these so any help really really appreciated.

Any reason you are jumping straight to £1000 full suspension bikes? As a beginner I would suggest a hardtail, where £550 will get you a very good starter bike to learn the skills on before you progress, also if you find you don't like it you loose less money.

That said, I would go for this one of those http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m1b0s1p525 ... NTY-2-2013

Round Cannock a hardtail can keep up with an FS, you'll loose a little in a few places and gain it in the others, that's not to say as a new rider you'd be able to keep up whatever you were on, it takes a while to pick up the skills.

The go to starter bike is the Rockrider 8.1 from decathlon, fairly light, well specced and most importantly a proper damped fork, £550, the Carrera Fury or Boardman hardtails from Halfords are also well worth considering for something a little more trail focused (slightly more relaxed geometry).

Rockrider 9.1 is an excellent vs bike.

Indeed, if you really want FS, the RR 9.1 from Decathlon is excellent for the money, a colleague at work just bought one (a bad back means he needs to be careful of shocks through the saddle which while an FS won't prevent, they at least reduce a bit!)
