Needing good heel clearance following an earlier knee problem I was impressed with your review, Cycling+ Sept 2012, of the Miche Primato Max chainset 11X. Miche have a new version for 2014 http://www.miche.it/en/catalogo/catalog ... to-evo-max
I have a Campag 10 speed set up and I have heard Chicken only intend to bring the 11 speed version into the UK. If this is the case can I run my Campag 10 speed with the 11 speed chainset? I'm sure the stock answer is no but will it work?

I thought 11 speed chains are thinner than 10 speed so probably not a good idea. I have 10 speed campag on my winter bike and 11 speed campag on my summer bike and would never interchange components or use a 10 speed cassette with a 11 speed chain or vice versa.

I think that you can. Here's an article that is talking about 10 sp cranks being compatible w/11 sp and certainly sounds like the reverse would be true too. Author notes that FSA chainrings are coming marked as 10/11 sp compatible.

Chainsets are not really (that) speed specific - despite what manufacturers want you to believe.

Sprockets on cassettes and chainsets are both very much narrower than the internal breadth of any chain. The reason cassettes are speed-specific is because the chain needs to both avoid fouling adjacent sprockets and falling between sprockets. This is not a problem that chainsets suffer from, due to the front derailleur works. So you can use pretty much any front chainset you want.
