I am currently looking to purchase a winter jersey, the Rapha one looks ideal but isn't available. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Budget £200 ish.
Or should I just get the Rapha soft shell instead (available now)?

Hi theotherjake,
I would highly recommend this:

I've got one & it's great even for our cold Scottish weather, warm & snug, ease of getting into rear pockets & excellent after sales support.

Assos 851, brilliant jacket but has to be blooming cold to wear it.0

I bought the winter jersey last year but returned it as it felt like wearing a really heavy, poorly fitting cardigan. The softshell is far superior i think.0

I'd go for a jacket over a jersey for winter.0

Ok great advise so far, what about the Rapha Pro Team Jacket vs Softshell?0

The Proteam is closer fitting and has a microfibre lining so you can wear it over a s/s base layer like a jersey. It's very good when it's cold and dry, although a bit of rain is ok too. The softshell is better when it's very cold and/or wet as you can wear a long sleeve jersey underneath.0 -

So you can't wear the PTJ over a long sleeve jersey?0 -

Yes you can or yes you cannot?0

The Pro Team Jacket is best with just a long or short sleeve base layer underneath. If it's totally baltic you can wear a gilet over the top for a bit of extra wind proofing. It's a cracking bit of kit.0

The winter jersey is a great item imo. It fits me like a glove and pretty warm even over just a baselayer. In the coldest days I would use a softshell jacket but for the majortiy of the time its a great piece of kit. I even wear it to the shops and other short journeys on the bike.Scott Speedster S20 Roadie for Speed

Ditto other comments, I've only had the older type winter jersey, it was rubbish. Too heavy material with very poor wind and thermal qualities.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

The Pro Team jacket is great, can't comment on the winter jersey.0

Never tried the winter jersey but the softshell is a brilliant bit of kit. Use a merino base and this and it's good to zero degrees and can withstand a bit of rain too. Completely wind proof too, because of this I now have started buying Rapha products when my old kit gets worn out.0
