Ok, so this has been asked a million times if not more.

I am after a rain jacket for my commute from 3 miles to 10 miles or more depending on what time I leave my house etc.

Problem I have is that I run very hot and so start get warm rather quickly, just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a jacket that has zip vents etc..

Was looking at the Mavic H20 or dhb 2.5EQ jackets, but if there are any others that I should be considering...

Thanks

SPEG Avert jacket is good once temps fall below 5c
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Was hoping for one that I could use all year round with the addition of a base layer if needed.

I use a £10 Decathlon one. Folds up small enough to put in a jersey pocket and has a couple of vents.

I run hot too, if the air temp is warm/mild then I don't bother with a rain jacket. Did over 100km in the wet on Saturday and felt fine. Only really wear a rain jacket if the temp is cold.
  • I had an expensive Campag one (about £100 iirc). Lost it and replaced it with a £5 Aldi one. I haven't noticed the difference.

From reading here and elsewhere I think I need to think more about my layers.. Had a merino baselayer LS and gilet on today to work around 7miles this morning and I was too hot! Just the weather is a foxing so and so currently!

In this weather I am shorts and t-shirt, stay that way down to about +4C when I then start to wrap up.

Waterproof wise I use a Howies ultralight that is so thin the insulation is minimal and the rain on the outside keeps me cool, it's also very light as it's carried all the time and only use about 10 times a year!

When the weather is cold and wet I use a softshell, not waterproof but acts like a wetsuit to keep you warm and you come out just as dry (if not dryer) as if you sweat in a 'boil in the bag' waterproof!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Rapha lightweight soft-shell most of the year, the classic one in the winter.

Neither completely waterproof, but on my 1:45 hr to 2:00 hr commute work well. They don't pack down to pocket size, but small enough to stuff in my bag.

The only jacket I've found that is completely waterproof without being overly boil in the bag is a Gore GoreTex one, now requisitioned by my son.
