Road tyres for my cross bike

Hi, bought a cross bike for giving cross a go and commuting, decided I don't like cross at all (sticking to TT) so want to put some road tyres on, good puncture proof ones for winter. Have been looking at several of the gatorskin models including the gatorhardshell but apart from not really being able to tell much of a difference apart from the weight and the folding/non folding for same price. I am guessing though that the hard shell is better puncture proof.
But the real question apart form what else would you recommend is what width should I go for? I am thinking around the 700-28 mark but need some advice on this one.

Schwalbe Sammy slick. Great tyres on road and good on trails and paths etc
Have them in 700 x 35c on my crosser0 -
If likely to be a little muddy/wet like canal paths with mud, tree roots and leaves then +1 Sammy Slicks, else if definitely road with a bit of winter proof I use Continental 4 Season 28mm. Did put my Sammy Slicks back on today for a canal blast though after being a bit too slippy on the 4 Seasons yesterday.0

I went with 28mm 4 seasons too and am very pleased with them.0
