New Bike - under 1k with discs, Genesis or something else?

Hi all,
Having a stable clear out, got a Canyon on order for next season but would love to pick up something now for the winter/commuting/days when its raining.
After something with discs, that looks good and is fun. Mainly using as a winter trainer but also commuting. I currently have a hybrid I use for the winter but its really boring and hate flat bars.. Anyway thinking of the following;
Genesis Day One Alfine 8

- not sure how I would fair on a 40 mile + ride with only one gear, possibly a good way to train - assuming knees hold out?
Specialized Tricross Sport Disc 2014 - Road Bike

- Not sure what Sora is like these days? I know low end, current road bike has 105 groupset - obviously will notice a difference just not sure how much.
Advice appreciated, open to other models - the further under 1k the better :-)
