Whats the actual difference between the GP4000 and GP4000S ?

Have seen these : http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k373/a ... 26&cr=GBP# and think they are a good deal. Mainly because I need some new tubes and they also have a blingy white stripe !

Trouble is I was looking at first at either the 4000S or 4SEASON ? - According to tests theres nothing much in it. the 4000's appear to roll well and hold up well in the wet too.

  • That'd what I first assumed but if you look the 4000 also has black Chilli ??
The 4000 comes in coloured however the tour version is banded like the 2014 versions coming out soon.

That's why I don't get what the difference actually is.
  • Not much difference if any. Irrespective of that these are fantastic tyres.

Only the black 4000 is black chilli, the coloured ones are not... for the sake of the price difference then go for the 4000s

The new 2014 4000sII will be available in lots of colours but with black chilli on each as the colour is in the side walls, but the quality control of how the colour meets the black looks pretty poor to me if you are fussy about things like that, look at the green one below where it is really apparent although the poor finish quality can be seen on all the colours to some degree apart from the plain black one of course.... (perhaps they will sort this out, but all these look crap to me)

Never noticed that before! From that site it seems 4000 black isn't in 25 unless black reflective but is that one black chilli? Maybe only diff is 25 4000s ?
  • Oh well I went for them on Bikediscount.de as they look a good buy to me since I need some tubes too.

Looks like the tour versions have a pretty good Finnish concerning the white detailing. I assume black chillies is in there too as they are the 4000 blacks with a white strip?!
  • that looks a good deal you got there do they do them in 25c
    Cube agree pro 2013
    Trek fuel ex8 2009 (rootbeer)

Yeah looks good. The tubes are around £6-8 each here in the UK (Halfords do them for £8.99) Then the normal Contis get on for £25-£30 each so yeah its not bad. + they are a bit more blingy than standard black tyres haha.
Will report back once they arrive and are fitted - they are coming from Germany.

Couldn't find 25C Versions like this. Think its old stock left over from the Tour De France 100 this year promoted mainly in Germany- never seen this stuff over here in the UK apart from the bog standard 4000 and 4000S.

25's measure closer to a 28. 23 is probably what you want or need

yeah the gp4000s 23mm seem to come up quite big compared to a lot of 23mm
  • Well tyres came today and I have just fitted and tested them. Good service from Bike Discount. They left Germany Monday- arrived this morning. All traceable via DPD. Not bad for standard class.

Tyres look really nice compared to normal GP4000's. Plastered with the usual logos + "Limited Tour 100 Edition".
The white wall is a white rubber compound over the top of the normal black tyre. Its Intergrated well and feels very robust and smooth with a added bonus that its all in-line and tidy (sometimes coloured bands wobble or come over onto places they shouldn't be)
I was worried it may be the lesser white silica GP4000 with black rubber painted on. Instead these are the Black Chilli GP4000 with a White Rubber wall so thats good!.

Did a small test ride. Weather at the mo is perfect for a tyre test. They grip like hell even on wet, greasy, leaf-covered roads we currently have around here. My Vittorias would spin up when off the saddle on a hill... these don't!
As reviews say these are mile more comfortable and are fast too.

Due to the water and filth the next issue I used to have with coloured tyres (esp white) is the discolouration.
Again I can report things went well. The white rubber compound is smooth enough that dirt doesn't stick and can be wiped off. When I installed the rear I got black grease on the wall - wiped off no problem!. Being coloured walls they shouldn't attract as much dirt to discolour as the coloured tredd stripes you usually get on other tyres

So I would suggest people to grab a bargain whilst there's still some left. :D !
