Rear shock advice....

Guys,
I bought my Nukeproof Mega in March this year, and I've not really ridden it that much at all (mainly due to injury over the summer).
Today thought I went for a blast on the bike and something became apparent that's been bugging me a while, the rear end doesn't feel that lively. It just doesn't pop like id like it too.
The shock is the standard Rockshox Monarch which came with the frame (I know the previous owner only used it once and replaced it with a CCDB coil)
I weight about 16.5 stone, and the shock holds a maximum of 275 psi in the main chamber. At maximum pressure I get about 25% sag. I have no rebound damping turned in at all.
The shock just doesn't rebound as fast as I'd like, it's slow and feels a bit dead. Riding XC and climbing, the shock is lovely, but when you want to pop and bounce out of berms & jumps it just doesn't pop like my old patriot used to.
It almost feels as though It needs more air, but sag of 25% is about right, and it doesn't bottom either.
I guess my question is, what's best to do? I don't want to waste my money. I have considered changing to a FOX DHX air but am I just too heavy for an air shock and should I run a coil on it like the previous owner did?
Any advice would be greatly received.
Cheers

To me it feels like the rebound damping it working too well....
I have no clicks at all, rebound is would totally out! Towards the hare on the dial.
On my old patriot (although it was coil) I ran my rebound about middle of the available adjustment.
I wasn't sure if this was a common thing with air shocks? Or whether I was just too heavy.
I have an air fork in my other bike and that feels quite "springy" though! But again I've needed to have no rebound wound in on them, but feel much more lively than my shock though...0 -
the problem with shocks is that they are set up for the average person. getting the shock tuned to your weight will help a lot.
if you haven't dialled in any damping and it is slow @ max pressure then you probably have a fucked shock. if the shock is still under warrenty then get it sorted0 -
Cool thanks guys!
Been reading and it seems the monarch is available in many different tunes (using shims inside the air can) obviously nukeproof just go with an average, but I'm heavier than that and like quite a springy ride! So looks like I need a different rebound tune, as currently the shock is 'M' medium rebound. I guess I'd need low rebound tune?0 -

After my first ride the other day on my 2012 Mega I too noticed that the rebound was fairly slow even with no damping. It could be the type of suspension setup the Mega runs combined with the RS shock. I'm only 11st so run less pressure and have the same 25% sag as you. I'll try running it with more pressure and less sag next time i'm out on it too see if it makes a difference and let you know.0

Thanks guys! It does feel like it needs more air, but I'm already maxed out!
Have done a bit of digging on the net and it seems that this shock isn't a favourite of everyone! With a number of people having hand same issues.
According to numerous posts on the net a coil shock transforms the bike. But I like the idea of an air shock as I will no doubt lose weight as I ride more and I don't want to be changing springs every couple if months.
The shock is still very new with low mileage so I may need to loosen it up a bit! I think I'm going to put up with it over winter and see how it goes!... If it's no better then I'll look to replace. Unless a bargain comes up before hand!
I've been offered a DHX 5 air at a very good price, but the reviews on this are not to favourable, so I'm still not sure what to do in that.0
