Can anyone recommend a good set of wheels for the winter commute on my Bianchi Via Nirone?

I was going to get a set of Mavic Open Pro with Hope hubs (Campag cassette) from Wiggle, but they let me down with the ordering.

Hope hubs don't take 11 speed Campagnolo cassettes...
Get someone to build you Open PRO on Record hubs instead

Record hmm nice. Record hubs on almost any rim is really good wheel set and light to.

A cheaper solution are Miche hubs either the racing box or Primato's but record hmm I have pair of H plus son archetype on record hubs staring at me every day. must resist must resist.

A fellow mechanic told me that the compatibility issue with Hope and Campag 11 speed had been resolved but I haven't tested it myself. Take with a pinch of salt.

    Where are you located OP?
  • The newer Hope freehub will take 11 speed, but you won't find it online just yet... you can probably order it via a shop

  • How do modern Record or Dura Ace hubs compare with much older ones?

I've got front wheels with Record, Dura Ace, Zeus and Simplex large flange hubs and Michelin small flang - all of which have done many thousands of miles with little maintenence (just the occasional regrease with Campag grease). Unforunately all of the rears are screw-on.

Also does anybody make a decent 40 hole rear cassette hub in 130 spacing (or can be converted)?

Modern record hubs are excellent, light and durable. A perfect hub really, so is modern dura ace. Some of my favourite hubs are Dura ace 7403 and record large flange for freewheels.

40H hubs are hard to find and for the tandem market. None of the main distributors carry them. They are about though.
