I have a set of knackered old wheels, they were only cheap and not worth trying to get usable, they have been sat in my shed since last winter when they gave up the ghost.

any ideas on what to do with them? seems a waste to throw them out, fancy a weekend project to turn them into something! i was thinking a table or something?

Knackered old wheels, only cheap, not worth getting useable.....yet a waste to throw them out???

I think you need to stop thinking :-)

You could always stick some plastic onto them and write fancy words on the side and sell them as aero racing wannabe wheels - seems to work for Mavic and Shimano.

I had a knackered hub on a back wheel - bought a new hub and re-built the wheel using the existing spokes & rim ... it's my turbo wheel now - cos it's not perfect enough to be a road wheel and I'm not sure I've got all the tensions right ...

I just meant it'd probably cost as much time and effort to get them going again as to just buy new ones (they are only RS10s) but seems like a waste to just chuck them out!

so not worth getting back to be wheels but wierd Chandelier, odd table, etc

I'm having the same existential dilemma with a shed full of bike bits at the moment. Alu road frame, possibly bent. Unbranded mtb frame, nearly had a buyer for it. £20... £10... £ free. Still couldn't shift it. And my old Jamis MTB frame. Just replaced, sentimental value only.

Then there's the children's bikes, which are getting too good to leave outside. And don't get me started on all the wheels. I trashed my best MTB wheels last month (hence the new bike). So now I've nearly got a pair of Stan's on Hope blingtastic wheels. Is it worth fixing them up even though there's no bike for them to go on...?

Yes then you can give them to me for My MTB :-)

  • Most would make them into a clock to hang on the wall. You can buy a clock mechanism online and fit it to the hub

to be honest, if you want them they're yours!! doesn't look like you'll be too far away either, i'm not far from coventry.

I did consider that but my flat is pretty small so i fear it would take up most of my wall space! maybe a christmas present for my dad, i'm sure he'll love it! my mum will run and put it up for the times i'm there and take it down when i leave!!

Is there a bikehub or other bike recycling place near you? I had a load of old bits and bobs that, realistically, I was never going to use again and after a few years of hoarding took the lot down to the bike hub, who were very grateful for it.
