Chain won't stay in fourth sprocket
Hi, I have a problem with my chain and my fourth cassette wheel, its seems to work fine in every other wheel but if I switch to the fourth and pedal it always skips up to the fifth, this happens in both of the front two chainrings. It started happening immediately after I swapped my old worn chain for a new chain, I didnt have any similar issues with the old chain.
The derailleur seems to be aligned parallel to the cassette, I have swapped the rear derailleur cable for a fresh one, & tried adjusting the cable tension with no joy.
The bike has 9 speed Campag xenon gears & derailleur, I don't know what brand the old chain was but the new chain is a 9 speed KMC chain.
Any ideas ?
Thanks
Haydn

I once had a fall that ended up in a mangled rear mech and a bent chain. I replaced both and the same thing happened to me.
New cassette fixed it.
Is the 4th sprocket your most used one by any chance?0 -
Worn 4th sprocket.Yellow is the new Black.0

It sounds like you need new cassette or at least a new sprocket.
You can get away with changing either the chain or cassette independently if they haven't done too many miles together but the more miles they've done together will mean they'll both need replacing at the same time.0 -
Yes i do use the fourth sprocket more than any other but I hadn't considered it might be worn, I will try replacing it or the whole cassette.
Thanks for the help.0
