I just came across this story on the DCrainmaker website:
http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/10/auto ... eview.html
I find it quite interesting but I don't have a trainer at home so can't test it but I'm curious to know how similar it will be to the real bike fit I did.

It would be great to hear if the app comes close to the results of your fitting. Cleat alignment is also something I'm usually messing around with, it was not included in the fitting I did. Since the app can also be used with a front/rear view maybe it can be helpful also with cleat alignment, although I'm not sure how that's usually done.
I'm actually considering buying a second hand simple trainer just to try it...0 -
Be interesting to try. I had a fitting at the bike whisperer and I'm the same as NapD, cleat alignment/ angles etc have made a massive difference, my position didn't change.
Will have a go with it out of curiosity maybe.0 -
I've been playing with an app on my laptop that is free and basically does all your angles and monitors them in real time. Basically I out the stickers on my legs etc then film myself and then copy the video to my laptop and then use this app to measure all the angles. The guy that made it even included a bike fit option which is awesome.

lol sorry, I was out and couldnt remember the name, now on the laptop I use and its http://www.kinovea.org/ brilliant app and its free.
I use my DSLR to video myself on a tripod, then copy it to the laptop and upload it to this app. You can also do side by side comparisons against pictures or other videos, stuff like bike fiting videos or youtube for example....Cycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0 -
I've tried Kineova but didn't really got it to work because my camera didn't capture my legs too well. I thought it would be best to bike with high cadence but the framerate of the camera was too low to capture it well and then measuring the angles became blurry guesswork. Of course that's the same for the iphone app so I'll try with a lower cadence.0

I had that issue with my DSLR as it cannot handle 90rpm for example but I used to use black clothes, ie base layers, and put white tape on so it stands out a lot on camera plus a bigger gear at say 50rpm helps. Now though Ive got an iphone 5s which does 120 fps and is so much betterCycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0

I have an iphone 4 which I don't think has a framerate like that... I also tried with black pants and white markers but probably the rpm is the most important thing to change, I wanted to make it as natural as possible but I don't think the angles change too much with a lower cadence. I'm going to borrow a trainer from a friend to try it out, I'm looking forward to using it.0

I used to have the iphone 4 but it won't do 120 fps it's a new thing for the 5s only. See if a mate has a video camera that does at least 120 fps as it makes it easier, otherwise ~50rpm in a big gear is good enough to get you in the ball park, then do small tweaks over the coming weeks on your long rides. Bike fit on a turbo for 30min or so isn't the same as being comfy after a 4hr ride for example, but good for ball park figuresCycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0
