Just wondered if anyone here has or has used one of these;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEDALPRO-A-FR ... 4d13926cf3

Or should I bite the bullet and buy a Tacx or similar.

    Well, to me it doesn't look as if it would last very long, plus you have to question the very low cost. As with most cycling related kit, you do get what you pay for. Park, Tacx or Ultimate workstands would be worth a look

    It looks very medieval, but it could work for some.

    To give you my two pence worth, I've got an Ultimate bike stand as GM mentioned which has the added flexibility of being able to attach the bike from the top tube or seat post, is height adjustable and can rotate 360 degrees, all of which this one looks like it can't. As it was on sale I got it for £36 too.

    For an extra few quid you can get a 'Bike Hand' branded one or similar, also come unbranded or sold by Raleigh I think. Excellent bit of kit for the money.

  • If you can wait for the next Lidl cycle promotion their stand is great and as far as I remember its about £30 - do a search on here as it gets discussed every time the promotion runs.

    I use a Park Tool PRS20 workshop stand. Expensive, but far more robust and practical for me. I don't like holding bikes by the top tube or seat post and the PRS20 is height adjustable allowing you to work standing or sitting, and rotates 360 degrees so you don't have to keep taking the bike on and off to work on the other side. It can mount from the front or back.
    I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

    Lidl one works for me and looks a lot like that second stand on ebay. Height adjuatable, rotatable, clamps on top tube or seat post etc etc

    Park stuff is lovely if you've got the money but the LIDL stand matches all of these criteria except being expensive :D Although I'm not sure what the far more robust and practical is in comparison to. For what it's worth I can't imagine how any stand (other than maybe ones anchored to the ground) could be more robust than the LIDL one. Frankly it's brutish and industrial; if I was to criticise it I would say it could be more refined and designed but its certainly practical.

    No, because it's a different type of stand entirely. You are not going to get a stand on which you can work on the BB area freely, for 30 quid. Either that or you haven't seen many stands.

    Stand arrived yesterday and seems pretty sturdy,will hopefully try it out this week-end to start stripping the bike down.

    Revolution tune up stand, had it 2-3 years now, superb and even holds up old heavy bouncy bikes.

    Also sold under different brands and can sometimes be had for £50
