i have a trek 1.5 red and white bike in aluminium and im thinking of buying the colnago team clx 3.0 red and white 2014 frame in carbon from shiny bikes and building it up to my spec. but its £1700 will the carbon bike be much better on the road then the trek 1.5, or im i wasting my money?

There is a thread on here about Shiny Bikes, read it before you commit.

Apart from the potential issues around a retailer which seems to operate around tight margins you need to consider what you want from a new bike and if you are better off buying a complete bike.

More expensive bikes can be better but like cars you need to buy the right one for you. When I bought my XC mountain bike I made a list of what I wanted frame type, suspension, gearing, brakes, riding position and did some test rides. As soon as I test rode the bike I ended up buying I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. For road bike you may want to get an idea of what geometry you are after. The good thing is you can customise it to your needs.
  • anyone got a colnago clx 3.0 yet if so is it better to ride then aluminium
