Mavic Wheels

Sorry about yet another wheels question, but......
Any one use Mavic Ksyrium Elite's ? I had a small crash on Tuesday morning on my way to
work and quite badly damaged my front wheel & bent the rear rim.
I ride an old, but beautiful Record Ace so I want a reasonable set of wheels for her but
I don't want to spend too much, £500 ish. I'm still looking for a new bike and then the
Record won't get very much use.
If anyone can advice on the Mavic's or anything else around that price that would be good.
Thanks.

Ksirium Elite always seem to be well liked and for that money you could get hand built wheels.0

I've got these on my best bike - they came with the bike so wasn't my choice. But they do ride nicely. I twisted a spoke and had to get it replaced (could've done it myself, but would probably have screwed the whole wheel!) - £20 for a spoke and true wasn't bad I thought ...
But then I've not got much experience of other wheels ...0 -
Didn't want to go to "hand built" I'm having enough trouble making my mind up on a
new bike without adding hand built wheels into the equation.....

I have them too, good wheels, they track beautifully and seem reliable but they were too harsh a ride for me on my stiffer bike so I put them on my comfier bike and it's a very good mix.Smarter than the average bear.0

You'll struggle to find them but if you are willing to spend circa £500 I'd recommend Campag Shamal Ultra. Naff name but very good wheels.
The Mavic Elites are generally well thought of but I know two people who had to bring theirs back due to manufacturing problems (rather than accident damage).

Shamal Ultra's would look super on my Record Ace but at £800 a set,
that's over my budget...0 -

I bagged a pair in the last few weeks from a German site for £325 delivered - I'll be honest I have not yet fitted them to my bike, but the quality is apparent, as is the weight, 1520 grams I think it is.
Forgot to add they are now out of stock.
I read a load of reviews, and the vast majority were glowing, which is what persuaded me.
I did see them in the UK for about £450.
Prior to that I was going for some Campag Zonda's, but the Mavic deal won me over.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)
