Silver compact handlebar in 26mm?

Can anyone advise me which handlebar to get to go with a Cinelli quill stem so a 26mm bar needed. I would like it to be shallow drop as the deep drop bars I have currently are uncomfortable as they place the shifters at an awkward angle. I see PX have some Cinelli bars in stock but not sure what sort of drop they are?

  • Camcycle, I can help (sort of) as I searched and searched for the very same thing, for my retro bike resto (see my posting in the "your road bikes" section (steel bikes thread)).

The fact is that as far as I can find, there is only one compact shape drop bar with a 26.0mm diameter available anywhere - the Bontrager SSC-VR (see http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bon ... s-ec044750) but it's only available in black.

If I'd been more pedantic I'd have sanded off the black paint as this would be easy to do without harming the bar and you'd need to do it only on the small visible section near the stem clamp. It's only £25 which is reasonable.

I have the same bar on my Kinesis T2 on a 26.0 A-head stem and it's been good over 2,500 miles so far.

If you've already found this same bar then I'm sorry to have wasted your time and mine but at least you know there isn't a silver one available! If you want silver 26.0 it seems that brands like Nitto do them but none in compact drop.

Thanks Bordersroadie, your post is most helpful. I had suspected this might be the case. No one seems to cater for those who might want to update a classic bike. Shame the Ritchey Classic is a 31.8mm clamp as that would be perfect. The Cinelli one at PX for £19.99 is not shallow drop I assume? The description seems to imply that it has a modern shape but looks pretty much like the Cinelli one I already have. I will have a look at the one above.

Once again, thanks for the info.

Somma bars look them up. There might also be a nitto option.

Soma do appear to do one but limited distribution in the UK it seems. The Highway 1 looks to be what I am after.

SJS do the Highway 1 but only in black, you could try them though. EDIT they have the silver ones in 38 and 44cm, others to order

Have you checked with Velosolo and Kinoko?

I can order the Nitto mod 177, and the cheap Pazzaz mod 421 and the Zenith shallow. The nitto bar is obviously the best and all silver. I checked the catalque this morning.

In fact I might start stocking them.

Silver in 40cm seem ideal. In stock from early November so will just have to wait a while. The black/silver seem to have a different profile, the black having a bulge in the middle which I am pretty sure wont fit the 26mm quill clamp. Silver is what I require so it's all good. The Nitto option also looks nice, seems to be described as a touring bar though? I just want a more ergonomic shape so my hands are not at a weird angle when riding on the hoods.

Yeah I noticed the black ones being different, strange but true, good luck with it ...

Cinelli's model 64 bars are silver and fairly shallow drop. You can probably find the measurements by googling. Cinelli still makes them but plenty are available on ebay for cheap. If you decide on these make sure you get the 26mm clamp area as some are 26.4 if my memory serves and they come with versions of 1, 2, or no cable grooves.

It's very similar to an fsa bar, really nice.
