Who also thinks he shouldn't be allowed a tt aero helmet in a mass start race?

Can we bet on this race?0

Difficult to distinguish, really. You would think they don't make this size, but then look at the spokes and the front hub - which look pretty much as the genuine Lightweight. Dad could have ordered custom ones, perhaps?0

We can bet someone's dad is as much a pecker as they are encouraging, the kid is probably loving every minute of it though, that's the only important thing! Bless.0

Appreciate that you posted this pic as a joke … and it is funny. But I’ve watched a fair few kids races in my time, going back 25 years or so to when I was one. And actually, I reckon the gains from better gear are a lot less marginal when you’re ickle than they are for adults. Most kids bikes are horrendous heaps, at least this one looks like it could shift a bit0

Yes, you are definitely right :-)
I also found a thread where this bike is described better:

Shame on his parents for letting him go to a race like that.
Heartbreaking times ahead for him.Cervelo S5 Ultegra Di2.0 -
The problem there is that if he wins it's expected, if he doesn't win it's a disaster, where's the upside?0

It was going to be and upgrade from 'pecker' to 'berk', but I don't think it is enough, I think it would begin with a 'w' and be preceded by one of those 'describing words' the kid has been learning about, maybe an 'ing' one like Sammy Spring has.
Seriously though, the parent has a problem, personally I think it is wrong and is a sign of bad parenting. Plus, I hope if they have enough money that this is spend is nothing to them that they give plenty to charity, because this is definitely a waste, and giving to charity isn't. No problem buying a kid a nice bike but that is beyond go going too far!
Plus, I hope it was mentioned a couple of months ago that the saddle to bar drop needs looking at, it's ridiculous the kid obviously needs a full bike fit including full motion capture, he/she's being neglected, where's that number for the RSPCC?0 -

Needs to back up a bit, front wheel shouldn't be over the start line. :shock:0 -
My son was in a "race" like this a few years back. There were about 10 8 and 9 year olds on half ton bikes from Decathlon and the like, and a couple of lads on scaled down road bikes. It was all a bit embarrassing really, I think they had to do five laps, but the two boy racers finished before the others had completed their third lap, so they just pulled the others over, totally demoralising for the rest. I don't blame the lads on the racing bikes, good luck to them, but the organisers shouldn't have pulled the rest over with several laps to go. My son had spent ages taking the mud guards off to make his bike lighter.
That said, my daughter came third in a the 6 year olds race and was interviewed by Swiss TV on the podium, unfortunately she didn't speak French.0 -

Race number is not very well done, shame to lose all those marginal gains through something like that...0

There are a few flaws there that shouldn't take place, I think (tt helmet, wheel too far forward, ridiculous saddle-bar drop etc), but on a serious note I wasn't going to make any arguments out of this situation.
However, I do definitely agree that it definitely kills the competition spirit and it's definitely a parental problem, not kids. In the first place they should be put with a level playing field, so young aspiring ''racers'', rather than kids on casual decathlon bikes. The organisers should also not allow this to happen. I would like to give everything I can to my kids, but this goes a bit too far. It's a shame on that parents really.0 -

He's not even gone clip less. Losing watts there - what a novice.0
